Over a year ago I created a Word document form for engineers to input data in only certain cells. Somehow I protected the whole document so they can not edit the form. Now I can't unprotect the form. Unprotect in greayed out. Can anyone help? Thank you

Try to View> Toolbars and enable your Forms toolbar in Word. The Protect Form icon is there to try.

Have you read faq731-376 to make the best use of Eng-Tips Forums?

Forgot to mention, I have Word 2002.

Not familiar with that type of protection but if you go to explorer and right click on the file you may be able to change it from read only to full control.
If it is password protected (dont think this is what your referring too), then you need a password cracker or send it in to someone to crack for you. There are some shareware programs for this but they are generally limited in the number of characters in the password to 6.

What is interesting...when I created it a year ago, I did not do password protection. The document also is not read only. Yesterday when I opened it for a few minutes, the protect/unprotect icon was not greyed out and worked fine. But, after I saved it and closed it then reopened it, it was greyed out again. Weird

1. Open in word
2. Save it as a rtf file
3. Close file
4. Open the rtf file ( this will remove the protection)

Rich2001,
That worked. Thank you much!
