We are planning to make 5-7 ppm ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD). I have been tasked to develop a cleaning plan for converting our 500 ppm diesel tankfarm to handle ULSD.
Does anyone have any experience to relay? Does anyone know how long I can expect the cleaning to take? We're talking about 100,000-200,000 barrel tanks. We plan to recycle diesel > 15 ppm because blending is probably impractical. I projected that it won't be practical to flush with the ULSD for several weeks because it will take time for the catalyst to produce good stock and for the 4000 ft of pipe to clear of sulfur. By the way, the petroleum marketers association of America (PMAA) says it will take 3-5 turn-overs to convert a low sulfur diesel (LSD: 500 ppm) to a ULSD tank.
Any insight?
