Hi group,

I need a kick-start, don't know where to look first. We're a US UL508a panel shop, meaning we can assemble various industrial control panels to the UL standard and apply a UL label.

A long-time customer wants us to build some panels for installation in the UK and EU with UK coming first. He'd like the equivalent label for that side of the pond.

Panel is a low-voltage (24 VAC) building automation system interface. It has a controller, an I/O board, and plenty of terminal strips.

I'm looking at CE with IEC 90947, but that's just my first glance. The EMC directive may be an issue, the panel contains microcontrollers and may require FCC in the US.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Best to you,

Goober Dave

I am in much the same boat. I started looking around for resources and short of writing a big check it is a tough thing to find.

I got pointed to IEC/EN 60204, self-certify. The EMC portion is debatable as to whether it needs testing. Everything is in a steel box, the emitters inside are all CE, there's a filter and a set of iron donuts on the incoming mains...

Got a reliable answer: IEC/EN 60204-1 plus EMC are required in most cases. We'll have the first batch actually tested by one of the approved agencies, then look into engineering self-certification on similar orders.
