I am involved in some research about subject. Quite frankly I was a little concerned as to the size of these guys relative to a severe ground fault, e.g. 65kA. I just received a letter fromthe Dept. of the Navy with reference to the effect. I'm told that they are pulling them off their ships because of an apparent new UL rule in terms of ampacity to ground sizing. In other words guys, there BS in terms of their present design.

What is your concern? What is the new UL rule? What is Navy's reasoning? Your post does not say much.

TVSS are not there to clear a ground fault. If TVSS itself blows up (which they can) they to be protected by their own overcurrent protection devices (fuses or breaker), rated for fault current availabe there (65KA etc).
