Turning Legacy Commands Back in NX 9.0 - How to Do It? 1

Have a series of parts that are years, if not decades, old that were created with older "legacy" commands like Pre NX5 Hole, Rectangular Array, and so on. Was out sick for a couple of weeks and now it appears I cannot find the functions with command finder, let alone make edits, in NX 9.0. Thought I went throug this before in NX 7 and NX 7.5, but my mind is a bit hazy with medication - any hints (Customer Defaults, Env.Dat, etc.)?

Okay... this thread may turn into a rant, given what I have seen at the SiemensNX Website:

So... for those folks that need to work with older part files, the only option is hunt down stray information on the Internet to turn back on the tools to edit the file, or remodel the entire file from scratch using the 'newer tools'? I know there has always been a push to 'use the current tech', but this is just plain Bullshyte!

Anyone in the forum know how to access Rectangular and Circular Array in NX9?

So... if I have a part file that has a rectangular array or circular array created by Instance Feature in a previous version of NX (say 6, 7, or 7.5), I have to delete those arrays, then recreate them with Pattern Feature? There is no possible way to edit the legacy setups?

You can still edit these patterns in NX9 with the old dialogs. Right click -> edit (or double click) the instanced feature and you will get the choice of editing the feature itself or the array parameters. No need to delete and rebuild them.

Let me try that again Cowski... Unable to edit - double or right click. On a chance, attempted to use Pattern Feature to see if it could handle the legacy features, as talked about in the other thread with John Baker - but as you can see from the attached screenshot, the computer is saying that the array is 'not supported'.

It appears that you selected an array as input to the pattern feature command; I'm not too surprised that didn't work.

You can edit the existing array by editing Instanced counterbore (4) or one of the instances; don't double click on "rectangular array (5)", that won't work.

Thanks cowski, long story short - have a rectangular array created in NX 7.5. Part migrated to NX 9 (Current Version NX 9.0.2.5), and need to edit the array to tweek some numbers. Problem, when attempting to double click or right click on the array - no menus appear. Side Note: Once we found the ability to access the Pre-NX5 Hole Command, was able to tweek the initial hole.

Nor did they in NX 7.5 (other than the properties dialog). You must edit the original feature (the one called "instanced [feature name]" in the part navigator) or one of the instances.

... thanks Cowski - user now is able to do what he needs to do, with the caveat that all new arrays will have to be done with Pattern Feature.

Still not a happy camper about switchover, could of at least left a note in Command Finder to the effect of "Command has been replaced with Pattern Feature". Que sera. Sera.

People complain that NX is already too complicated and now you want us to keep all of the old obsolete commands readily available even when they've been replaced with something newer AND BETTER? BTW, if we did do that, we'd have at least FIVE different dialogs for Extrude alone.

That being said, our policy is to support, when possible, the 'editing' of legacy features, but we try to avoid including the dialogs which would allow users to continue to create 'new' legacy features. If you need to create a new model you really should be using the latest functionality.
