Tube Sampler for Stiff Clays

I am trying to locate a supplier where I can purchase tube samplers for sampling stiff clays. The tubes we presently use do not have a large enough diameter difference between the tube end and the tube body. The result being the clay is significantly sheared in the outer circumference. I am trying to locate a sampler that has more room in the body of the tube to avoid so much disturbance.

I am in Southern California and presently use Acker but they don't have what I'm looking for. I appreciate any leads.

Which part of southern California? It's possible that you will have to have tubes made for you to meet the needs of the soils that you are sampling. Are you using true Shelby tubes?

Please see FAQ731-376 for great suggestions on how to make the best use of Eng-Tips Fora. See faq158-922 for recommendations regarding the question, "How Do You Evaluate Fill Settlement Beneath Structures?"

Imperial County, the clays are generally stiff or very stiff/hard. I am trying to sample for CU Triax, and direct shear testing for slope stability analysis.

I am currently using shelby tubes but the ones I use from Acker don't have enough clearance between the ID of the tip of the tube and the ID of the main tube body. This results in more sample disturbance. I'm looking for similar tubes but with more clearance.

Thanks
