I have some problem with true stress strain curve of thermo plastic polymers. I am simulating the tearing behavior of seam of Instrument panel, due to air bag deployment in LS dyna FEA code. The polymer of the IP is having very high tensile elongation of 550% at break (As per ASTM test D412).I have load Vs Deflection value of the polymer until it get fractured. Can any one tell me how to obtain the true stress strain curve with this data? Can I still use the conventional formulae to find true stress strain curve? I do not know when the necking starts in plastic materials. I appreciate your response.
