Triangle-headed Lag Bolt

I'm looking for information on a 1/4-20 bolt that looks very similar to a lag bolt, except the head is triangle shaped rather than square. Any information on a fastener name and supplier would be great.

This will certainly be a special, I have never seen anything like that listed as stock. If you contact any of the major fastener manufacturers they should be glad to make you some as long as you want enough of them (I would estimate the minimum run on these would be 15K - 25K depending on the company.

If you only need a few, then buy the hex head lag bolts and have the heads machined into triangles or anything that makes you happy.

My company purchased another company (creating a new division) and one of their new products uses this hardware. We are presently doing as you suggest (maching hex heads to triangles) but this cannot be the "go forward" answer for Production. Due to existing contract requirements we cant simply redesign to remove the triangular headed fastener.

It's suppose to be a common feature, but I guess "common" is a relative term.

Apparently, there exist standards for these animals, at least in the metric world. See DIN 22424, and 22425. The following companies at least list them on their websites, whether they are in stock or not is an excersize for you the reader:

BTW, this is from a simple google search for "triangle head bolt". Next you'll probably ask about the mating wrenches. DIN #22419.
