Hi all,
Can some one tell me what kind of lateral load combination should I use for analyzing a structure subjected to transportation and handling loads. The structure is a skid which will be installed in a chemical processing plant. It will be built , assembled off site and transported to it final location in the plant. I saw in a sample calculation that they used the following combinations for lifting and handling loads respectively,

a. for lifting load
2g vertical

b. and for transportation loads

1. 1.5g lateral + 1g vertical,
2. 2.5g vertical load and
3. 1.0g lateral + 1g vertical.

this example does not cite from where these load combinations were obtained. Are these the right combinations or are there any other combinations ?

You should also consider the following:
Forward = 2g
Aft = 2g
Down and Forward = 1.5g and 1g respectively
Down and Aft = 1.5g and 1g respectively
 
If you are using rail transport you must account for the potentially large shock load from coupling cars together. Plus there can be significant fatigue due to track joint induced vibrations. In a former life the company had several operator cabs come off during rail transport even though it was shaker tested with actual field loading.
