Transforner Fan cycle control 1

Hey guys,

Is it appropriate to turn Stage 2 fans on instead of stage 1 fans juts to keep the wear out of the fans even.

Customer wants to toggle between Stage 1 and Stage 2 fans when a signal is received asking for Stage 1 fans to turn on. So when a signal is received for Stage 1 fans, I will turn stage 1 fans. Then the next time signal comes in for Stage 1, I turn on Stage 2 fans instead of stage 1.

So would this effect the actual cooling of teh Transformer because of the physical locations of the Stage 1 and 2 fans; or it doesn't matter which stage-fans turn on for a Tuen-Stage 1-On request.

This is a fairly common controls scheme in most larger transformers I have worked with. I have seen the control occur via a SCADA command and have also worked with utilities that implement this as part of a maintenance routine (inspect unit and change 1/2 bank starting switch).

Many fan control panels will have a selector switch to achieve just what you are describing.

Absolutely no difference.Normally stage 1 &2 are designed in equal numbers and cooling will be same for each stage.The way you are doing is perfectly OK.
