I have a RC/PT slab separated by an expansion joint. On one side of the slab, there are large point loads located along the span parallel to the joint. I want to transfer some of these point loads to the adjacent slab because my slab would be able to hold.
Is it possible to transfer these shear forces across expansion joint by designing the dowell bars to take to load? What would the distribution of the load across the expansion joint be? i.e. 70/30, 50/50? And over what distance would you have to design the dowell bars to support each load?
