Hi every body,
I would like to know how to transfer data stream from analytical instrument RS-232, Modbus RTU protocol into a Modicon PLC. What SOFTWARE should I use to program the PLC for it to collect data into the registers? Thanks.

What modicon do you have? Some modicons only have slave mode suport for there ports.
Does your modicon have MB+? It would be posable to install a bribge mux.
Does your inst suport master mode? Where it can write or is it only a slave? Some times on inst such as you may have, ther is a print option to feed data out.

- We have a Quantum 140CPU11302 with a MB and a MB+.
- The inst havs a MB interface board (RTU protocol on an RS-485 two wire connection at 9600 bauds) where the data is placed in 16 bit unsigned registers.

OK as I understand the quantum comms port is only supported as a slave port. What that means is the quantum cannot request data from another device. However a device may act as a master and read and write through that port. Also the port is RS232 so you would require an adapter (RS232 > RS485).

There is a modbus II card witch can be installed, along with an software loadable to work past this. These cost about $2k.

But there is a better product BM85S, this device will add four rs232 or RS484 ports to a MB+ network. Then each device will appear as an MB+ node and MSTR will work fine.
These cost about $2k. I have used many of these and found them very easy to use.

Seems like you would think a modicon PLC would be able to establish modbus host read and write Messages to otter modbus devices, But when I have asked about this they always say we are working on a loadable that is not available yet.
