Hi,

Does anyone know of any requirement in the UK for pipefitters / maintenance personnel to have formal training to work on onshore industrial natural gas pipework installations? We employ qualified and competent fitters to work on our power station and they are required at times to work on our gas fuel system which operates at 45 Barg. I know that there is the CORGI system for domestic gas fitters but is there an equivalent for industrial sites?
If anyone knows of a company providing such training as well then this would help.

Cheers,
Irish Al

Al,

A somewhat oblique answer: for electrical & instrument personnel working on hydrocarbon installations, there is the CompEX certificate which is the recognised electrical qualification for anyone working on hazardous area installations. Knowing that the ATEX regulations have expanded under DSEAR and now encompass mechanical equipment as well as electrical, there may well be a similar qualification for the clanky trades. Perhaps a call to the HSE inspector for your area would give the most direct answer.
