Well I got up ridiculously early (at least for the weekend and especially my Birthday) and went and froze significant parts of my anatomy off watching the darn thing. Not even a hint of red and this was at full eclipse, of course it was pretty dark still, maybe if I'd gone back out when the sun was up it may have been more impressive but I was more interested in opening my gifties by then.
We had low ground fog and the moon dove into the treeline at about 6:00, but at 5:30 the partial eclipse was just above the tree line. Woke up the smallest son, who wanted to see a Poke-ball moon, which it sorta was thru binocs. For Seattle, it's rare to see a winter eclipse, they're usually obscured by clouds. Thanks again, lacajun.
Total solar in Cornywall, August 1999 put me off the whole thing. First read about it in some boys' own science book when I was about 10 and was looking forward to it for 20+ years. Complete cloud cover. It got a bit dark and cold for a few minutes.
