Is Ti 6AL4V harder than annealing? We have Ti 6AL4V

annealing material. When we bend it ,we found crack on its

surface. Before we did it too,but there is no crack .

We suspect this material isn't annealing. Can anyone

answer it ?Thank!

It is difficult to understand what you wrote. I believe you are asking if alloy Ti-6Al-4V is harder after annealing. Annealing, when properly done, decreases material strength and hardness, and increases plastic strain capacity. Therefore, annealing should provide material that is less likely to crack during forming.

Ti-6-4 is a heat treatable alloy due to it's dual-phase (alpha-beta) nature. Depending on the temperature at which you "annealed" it, and the hold time, and quench method, you may have actually heat treated and aged the material. RTI has a pretty informative site: and provides a pretty good explanation of titanium alloys. For specific annealing cycles or heat treatment/aging cycles, consult your supplier.
