I have run into the use of a timer to disable a detector in a local alarm system. The detector is in a welding shop remote from the control panel. When the timer is activated, a trouble signal is sent to the control panel and it cuts the power to the detector for up to thirty minutes. It seems like an arsonist's dream to me. Is this permissible per NFPA 72?
