I am looking to weld Titanium Grade 2 to Grade 5 with TIG.

Can someone give some guidance on the precautions to be taken and the consumable?

Thank you.

You're aware that the weld will be no stronger than the weaker of the two materials, correct?

The Miller link is excellent but I think it minimizes the risks of welding the stronger gr 5 material. Welding commercially pure titanium is tough to begin with, and adding gr 5 to the mix makes it a fair bit worse still.

Thank you.

Therefore moltenmetal, which consumable do you recommend?

Sorry, I don't know what I'd recommend...I suggest you speak with titanium suppliers for their advice.

I would typically select the weaker of the two as filler, gr2 in this cased.
But I would check with your material producer and see what they say.
I don't weld gr5.
