Hi, I have a project where I'm anchoring a relatively large screen on the second floor of a store. The screen will sit on a concrete filled metal deck. It's a high seismic region so I am having a tough time finding anchorage that works. I was thinking if there is a way to thru bolt the metal deck that may work. Has anyone done something similar or have any suggestions?

How thick is the slab? Remember, if you dump the moment into the floor the floor has to be able to carry it back to the supports. Is there a way to run discreet supports up into the ceiling? That should simplify your connections pretty well.

1) The trouble with pretty much all kinds of thru-bolting is that there don't seem to be any accepted methodologies for doing the design checks.

2) I've done through bolting for situations such as yours with a distribution member on the backs side (plate, angle, channel on the flat). For an analysis method, I've resorted to first principles methods which, frankly, I don't have a ton of confidence in. For better or worse, my home jurisdiction isn't too sophisticated on this front so we can get away with a lot.

3) Another solution might be to run new framing among the existing such that you're attaching to those members rather than the deck alone.

4) What's the character of your loads for this? 5 PSF interior wind or guard rail stuff?
