Threaded Holes Becoming Corrupted

We have been having a problem with tapped holes. Someone will be working with a part and one or more extremely large phantom circles will appear. These phantom circles can be tracked to tapped holes, which will then have some invalid size properties. This has happened on more than one computer and to more than one user. We have not been able to track down what triggers the corruption. We are using 2006, SP 1.0.

The work around that we have found is to change the size of the tapped hole to a different size and then change it back, ex. #4 to #6 and back to #4.

Has anyone else seen this?

Eric

Yes. This has been discussed before. The "phantom circles" are screwed up cosmetic threads. It seems to happen to me most often if I edit the hole location sketch rather than editing the definition of the hole through the wizard. If I recall right your fix method is pretty much the "accepted" workaround.

I thought this had been fixed in a more recent SP for SW06!

if the file was made with an earlier SP then it will reoccur, but it should not happen with later SP that have files made from it. I can't find the thread, but to fix the issue you select no COsmetic thread accept the change. Edit the definition of the Hole wizard hole give it a cosmetic thread and the issue goes away for good for that hole wizard hole.

Thanks for the replies, and the additional work around. I had a vague memory of it having been discussed before, but was unable to hit on the thread while searching for it. I scanned through SolidWork’s list of items fixed in the later SPs, but none of them jumped out at me as being this problem. It is probably time to move up a newer SP though.

What I did notice was a list of fixes in SP5, so we might be seeing that soon.

Thanks again for the replies,
Eric
