I am looking for a .010" thick silver or copper plating on a 4" cube pin heatsink. I have contacted a number of plating houses and was told that electroplating and electroforming of this geometry was impossible. I am hoping to find an electroless plating solution. I know I can use Electroless Nickel but I'd really like to stick with silver and if not silver then copper for thermal conductivity reasons. All the information I can find and all the plating houses have told me that electroless silver and copper deposit way too slowly for me to reach my target thickness of .010"
I've even considered the possibility of using the mirror re-silvering chemicals and techniques, although I am a bit loth to send my product out to a furniture restoration shop to be precision coated with a hand spray gun!
I am open to the option of replacing some of the pin fins with something that may be used as an electrode to facilitate electrolytic deposition if that's possible.
The heatsink is quite dense there are 316 pins with a dia. of .125 spaced at approximately .070 apart in an 18 x 18 matrix and 3.75" long, with a few removed at each corner for attachment. (Makes for an excelent cooling surface area ... if only I can get it plated!)
