Does anyone know of a good coating to prevent convective cooling. The material that I am trying to insulate is copper. The application is a cold plate on a thermoelectric cooler. The parisitic heat load is too high an my efficiency is suffering.

Thanks

There are some "hitech", ceramic based coatings designed to provide insulation for gas turbine hot section components. These coating have also been used in the automotive/motorsports applications. They are designed for temperatures up to 2000F or more. You may be able to get by with an insulating paint. There are a few manufacturers our there. Sorry I do not know any names off the top of my head. Try a web search for "insulating paint".

You might get a better search under "Thermal barrier coating" or TBC. There are plenty out there, some more exotic($$$) than others, some are two parts (metallic undercoat, ceramic top).
