Hi,

I am looking for thermal expansion coefficient for 409 grade steel. The reference tempearature room and around 447 C. Thanks

Found the coefficient for 410 - it's 6.1 x 10-6 in/in-F

409 has a touch of Ti (6xcarbon), but otherwise has similar properties.

The following is found in US Steels Atlas:

Average coefficient of linear thermal expansion
Temperature range Coefficient

°C °F µ/m·K µin./in.·°F

20 - 100 68 - 212 11.7 6.5
20 - 260 68 - 500 11.9 6.6
20 - 480 68 - 900 12.4 6.9
20 - 650 68 - 1200 12.9 7.2
20 - 815 65 - 1500 13.5 7.5

Temperature range Electrical resistivity Thermal conductivity

°C °F µOhm·m W/m·K BTu/Ft·°F

100 212 24.9 14.4
500 930 28.6 16.5

hth, chris

ps. hope it's readable, the format of output is not really copy/paste-friendly...
