Good Day Everyone,

I am currently using Bunker C Fuel Oil in the design of a heat exchanger, but I cannot seem to find a reliable value for the thermal conductivity of Bunker C. The Bunker C is being heated from 100°F (at the inlet) to 140°F (at the outlet); this is the temperature range that I am looking at.

I understand that the properties of Bunker C vary depending on the location it was taken from, but I am hoping that there may be a consensus on what thermal conductivity should be used.

If anyone has any data regarding the thermal conductivity of Bunker C Fuel Oil and can provide references for that data, it would be greatly appreciated if you could provide me with this information.

Thanks,

Mech011

Nevermind, I found the information I was looking for in Perry's Chemical Engineering Handbook pg (9-13).

Mech011, what is the edition that you are using? In your edition, what is the title of that chapter 9? I have 7th edition and I can not find your reference.

The spanish version of Perry VI brings FIG. 9-6 showing the thermal conductivity of liquid petroleum-derived fuels as function of density and temperature.
Same graph appears in Perry VIII in FIG. 24-2.

The solid lines refer to oAPI; the broken lines refer to relative density at 15oC.

I am using the English version of Perry's 6th Edition. The information is found in Fig. 9-6, and is as 25362 described it.

25362 and Mech011,

What are the Chapter names for 9 and 24 in the 6th edition? I have 7th edition and 9 is Process Economics and 24 is Biochemical Engineering.

Thanks

Chapter (secci[ó]n) 9 of the 6th spanish edition is titled:

Utilizaci[ó]n, conversi[ó]n y conservaci[ó]n de los recursos energ[é]ticos.

I'm still laughing....

Mech011, your turn.
