Text extrude or cut probs

Been trying different things with Text on a flat surface.
After placing some text on a face into an existing fully defined sketch for example (to then be extruded or cut), why is there a warning that "this operation requires a fully defined sketch" ? I assumed that it was fully defined because of how it is placed onto the existing curve.
(And, yes, I've made sure the curve is for construction.)

The only way I've figured out to avoid this is by setting the "Use Only Fully Defined Sketches" to OFF.
However, the Text still stays blue in color.
I've tried making an independant sketch, closing it and then starting the Text sketch seperately and using a curve from that sketch...doesn't seem to change things either.

In order to appease the "relationship gods" I tried to establish a relationship to some part of the Text but cannot find any "tag" or part of the Text to tie to.
I'm used to ACAD, where the text has additional justify "handles" that will allow all manner of placement for the text using that handle; such as Middle-Center.
How is this done in SW ??

If there's a way to do this, it will answer a few other questions about placement of Text that I have.

The Help file says that you can right-click the Text and then Properties to Edit, but when I click on Properties, nothing shows up. Double-clicking shows the Text property manager...is this all there is to be shown?

Also, if different Texts are used in the same sketch(orientations set to differing curves), how can they be linked so that a change in the font size of one will change the others ?

There should be a 'handle' dot at the corner of the text. Use it to define relationship.

My experience with all this: create text in its own sketch--no other geometry.

Your text will have a handle dot (point) at the lower-left corner of your text. This allows you to create a relationship with external geometry. Create a sketch before your text sketch that contains your anchoring geometry. Enter your text sketch and anchor the handle to the external sketch geometry.

A bit of a kludge, but I learned this a long time ago--could be a simpler way these days that I've not yet learned.

By the way, you may want to rid yourself of the "Use Only Fully Defined Sketches" option. I don't see much good in using that, especially since I make good deliberate use of a mix of defined and non-defined entities in sketches.

To add to Jeff's post. Nice reply Jeff, I typically work with text that way also. To edit your text you first edit the sketch and then when you hover over the anchor point of the text (or the text itself) you will notice the cursor change (to an "A" I believe). When the cusor changes double click and the property manager will chnage to text mode.

Good point. Text is still a little sketchy to work with--so finding out all this stuff without a little help can be frustrating.

gatz ... As far as I know, the text always remains blue, even when fully defined. It never changes to black.
Maybe it's because the font, orientation, spacing, etc, does not get fixed, so it remains undefined???

Try a few different fonts... some of them can be a bit flakey for engraving/embossing.
