Testing Studs in Composite Beams

Is there a specific standard for testing the capacity of shear studs used in composite beams? An engineer in our office suggested hitting the studs with a sledge hammer. Is that an acceptable method of testing?

AWS D1.1 gives shear stud bend test requirements.

I think per the test that UcfSE mentioned, it typically calls for 10% of the studs to be bent (I think it is at an angle of 30 degrees but not sure). You can have them leave the bent studs in place (no need to straighten them).

If studs start failing - a larger percentage is then bent.

I have also used the "sledge hammer" field test in a pinch. One of my former supervisors used to take the most petite female engineer in the office (sorry that is not PC) out to the jobsite to administer the test. Typically, if the weld is bad, the stud will go bouncing along the deck.
