Is there a tester available (similar to foot candles tester) to tell if a flourescent lamp is on a magnetic or electronic ballast? If you would let me know who manufactures this type of device and a website address it would be a real help.

Thank you for your assistance.

How about getting up on a ladder, remove a lamp and take a look at couple of ballasts? They all should be the same on the similiar fixutures in the area.

I have done a job with 40,000 fixtures some ballasts were missed. All the lamps were changed. My subcontractor missed them.

I need a faster way then check each one. I have seen this type of device I just need to find the manufacturer.

I pulled this off the web after google-ing "ballast Checker"

To verify which type of ballast is currently installed in a given fixture, without having to take it apart, a flicker checker is available through Motorola (call 1-800-453-1506 for information on obtaining this inexpensive tool, known as a flicker checker device [FCD]). Spin the flicker checker on a flat surface underneath the fluorescent lamp in question. If the ballast is the older, electro-magnetic type, you will see a stroboscopic effect appear as it spins. If the fixture has the high-frequency, electronic type ballast, you will see no effect on the flicker checker

OK. cool..Good to know. I presumed a lot samller project/ task..

You might try a non-contact hand held tach meter.
when pointed at the fixture the old magnetic balast will
indicate 60 Hz.
