In the STAAD help files it states
"TENSION / COMPRESSION commands should not be specified if the INACTIVE MEMBER command is specified"

Can someone please clarify does this mean that you can't run an analysis if it contains these two commands at all or does it mean that you just can't use the two commands on the same member (which would make sense).

Thanks in advance.

This limitation was fixed in late 2009. The problem was that the same flag was used to denote that a member was inactive due to the INACTIVE command or inactive because a tension member went slack. So inactive members could become active inadvertently. Also after each tension/compression case was finished all members would become active. In any case this limitation has been fixed.

Thanks RAYC1.

I notice that in the STAAD.Pro V8i (20.07.06.34) help file it still says the same thing for inactive members which it says in STAAD.Pro 2006.

The exact wording is "The INACTIVE MEMBER command should not be used if the MEMBER TENSION/COMPRESSION command is used"

Is the help file wrong or is it refering to being used on the same member. I think I'll raise a service ticket to confirm with Bentley and post the answer.
