Hi,
I am involved in a sizing of a overpressure relief excess volume reservoir for fire case. This will be an entirely liquid filled system.
The fluid will experience different temperatures at different locations, and heat load due to fire will only occur in a localized region. Therefore, the system will involve significant temperature stratification so that only a limited volume will get heated to high temperatures and contribute to the net pressure increase.
I am guessing that pressure change will only depend on the temperature change as equation (3) in API 521 does not include the volume of fluid that undergoes temperature change.
How do I go about determining the size of excess volume reservoir for this case?
Thank you in advance.
