Tekla Structural designer long term deflection check? 1

Tekla structural designer has the capability to check and report long term deflection. Since am new to the software I want to know the reliability of the programs reported long term deflection.

Do you want to know about analysis for long term deflection of timber in tekla? Well it is fairly similar to the codes that govern timber design and since timber long term deflection is related to creep and shrinkage the multiplers are used to factor up short term deflections.


All kidding aside, I assume you mean concrete because you are calling rapt on the bat phone. Tekla has two different methods to estimate the long-term deflections well technically 3, they have the simple and rigorous. They use the eurocode methods for rigorous and have a very good reference in T48 and the equivalent for USA.

What are your concerns? have you read the designer info on the structures web area?

Thanks rowing, I am just new to the program. I remember seeing another thread about other programs like CSI SAFE and RAM CONCEPT, some criticism were there on how the programs don't include restraint to shrinkage(safe) and such while calculating LT deflection. I am just trying to make sure tekla doesn't miss anything.

No program is perfect, even rapt has limitations, often you need to find sound methods to check, that don't require over reliance on a programs. These can be rules of thumb to quick hand analysis, personally I like rules of thumb, some ratios have stood the test of time.
