I am working on a project where a 6 3/4" wide timber truss sits on top of a steel column. I need to detail the connection to allow for 5/8" lateral truss deflection.
In the type of work I do this is not a very common detail. I have only used this type of detail once about six years ago. At that time my detail consisted of two 1/4 plates with some kind of coating bonded to the plates. One plate was welded to the steel column. The other plate had counter sunk holes which allowed it to be screwed into the wood.
In researching bearing pads I have come across several companies, such as Tri*Slide and Seismic Energy products, that sell bearing pads. However it seems that all the material is bonded to a 10 gauge plate. I don't think I can attach that thin of plate to the wood.
Is there any one out there who bonds to 1/4" plate or is there some type of coating I could apply to the steel to accomplish the same thing?
