Tectum Deck Bracing Joists

I have a gym building that will be steel bar joists at 5 feet on center with Tectum cementitious deck. The question is... will the tectum brace the top chord of the joists? I have looked thru the Tectum information and have a call into them but have not heard back. My feeling is that the tectum has a decent diaphragm capacity and if it can handle this then it will be able to brace the top chord.

What have others done with this situation?

I have never used Tectum, but there appear to be several different types. The following link indicates that it can carry "sheer values up to 786 pounds" whatever that means. I think they likely mean it can carry shear values up to 786 pounds per foot, but you should probably check with Tectum Inc. for confirmation.

I have used Tectum, back in the 1970's, but only when the Tectum was supported on bulb tees, not directly on joists. I think if the Tectum panels are connected to the joists adequately, they will brace the joists. Where you may have trouble is finding any verifiable diaphragm values. With the bulb tees, we never worried much about the diaphragm adequacy, but without the bulb tees, I would be dubious.

slickdeals is right about that. A leaky roof destroys the deck in a hurry.
