In this aged thread @transmissiontowers describes and generously provides a photo of a locking mechanism to mechanically join two sections of tapered pole at the slip splice.

I'm trying to find this or a similar mechanism to specify on a drawing, but my google-foo is lacking. Anyone have an idea manufacturer or part number? Searching 'Thomas and Betts' and a bunch of other qualifiers didn't yield anything of help.

Just getting started on my digging and will report back if I find something

One bump for the Monday views.

At this point, I'm leaning towards specifying a couple Hollo-Bolts.

I seem to remember reviewing a Valmost submittal and they didn't have any bolts or connectors at all. The top piece fit snugly over the bottom piece and that provided the connection.

Unfortunately, I'm dealing with a municipal plan reviewer who's skeptical of these splices and even though they're codified, and I've justified that there's no net uplift with an extremely conservative approach, he claims my FOS against uplift isn't enough and they'd like this secured with additional fasteners.

Normally, I don't use any connectors here either.

I looked to the Design of Steel Transmission Pole Structures
ASCE/SEI 48-11

The following paragraphs explaining the requirements for slip joint for single pole structures. The standard allows the use of slip joint when the design loads ( bending, tension, compression) is less than applicable jacking force.

C11.3.1 Slip Joints

Another para.

The substitution of slip joint for single poles is bolted flange connection.

That's the typically configuration for our high-mast light towers, even for round middle sections over the 16-sided base sections, except the company name is Valmont.
