taper roller bearing failure

It looks like the roller and bearings wore-out until they broke-up. Lack of lubrication and impacts could also be factors.

Your images are so poor in quality that I can't tell if the red/orange is grease or corrosion.

from the pics, assuming as per comments:
- the roller got seized up, the bearing was not turning (properly)
- environment is heavily corrosive or maintenance is poor ... to scarce
- the roller was due to be changed
The material of the roller is probably (your input?) a quite hard but brittle material, and from the fracture an impact event could be reasoned (your input?). From the corrosion of the fractured surfaces the presence of heat or water or both could be reasoned (your input?)
Is this from some aged steelhandling factory?

Based on the photos provided, the guide roller looks in far worse shape than the tapered roller bearings. It would be very helpful if you could provide a sketch of the guide roller and bearing installation. Including the outer races of the tapered roller bearings.

I've seen your input on that other thread of the OP, so you took an interest to this very intriguing but alas disappointing train of tech. issues.. It would have been so simple for the OP to give at least some of the feedback he/she was ASKED for, but no, or almost. Perhaps not yet..
Btw. it was on 25th that he/she was last seen on the forum, so hopefully there's not a more serious breakdown.
Three tapered b.s, I never encountered something the like of it, tapered b.s in pairs, that's the usual way. Question well put.
But then have a look at this one post of the other thread about the broken shear pin (with the pictures of the equipment in question): Imo it is to be concluded that the machinery & equipment is rather old / "experimental" ;-) / of faraway origin or else.

Because part of the picture of that other post / thread speaks to me that some of the common rules applicable in the industry might not be followed here, and thus by curing some symptoms a big event might be the next thing to come!
