I am trying to find out if there is a good rule of thumb for the maximum filling rate in a floating roof tank? I know for static discharge you want to keep below 3 ft/s, but we were thinking there has to be a limit to keep the roof from getting hung up, ect. Has anyone heard of any guidance for this? Thanks!

I generally advise that aluminum IFRs can rise at one inch per second without issues. However, if it is done often enough, it may wear the seal(s) prematurely. Feel free to contact me at davidr at allentech dot com.

collism,
It depends on your fluid. The limited velocity at 1 m/s should be for kerosene or jet fuel.

For other liquid hydrocarbons ,you may use 2.5 m/s for discharge of pump to tank.
