Hi!
i have designed a tank basing my analysis on the flexural/bending theory of plates (i.e. westergaard approximate solution for rectangular plates. is this adequate or do i need to consider shearing? the tank has a capacity of 100 gallons.
 
In order to make this decision, describe the structural shape of the enclosure. Depending on the ratio of surface area from the side to the bottom for example, you can determine if if the tank is supporting the most vulnerable members. Can you internally brace the large sides??? I have never used shear in trying to create a non-pressure vessel type enclosure of this application.
 
For such a small tank, why not just buy one?

Is it open-top, pressure vessel, plastic, metal, lined, heated, insulated, flat-bottom or with legs, for corrosive liquid, stirred, etc.?
