Hi,

Currently, we have an intention to convert a methanol storage tank to store gasoline. The tank has internal floating roof.
Issues which have been highlited are:

1) Ensure internal floating roof will operate OK with gasoline considering lower density (0.7g/mL c.f. 0.79g/mL)

2) Level instrumentation will need to be adjusted for different product density.

3) Foam type & rate of supply suitable for gasoline tank fire.

4) Water spray volume to adjacent tanks is sized correctly to keep tank cool in case of gasoline fire (much greater radiant heat than methanol fire).

What other issues possible?

Floating roof should have been designed for 0.70 specific gravity per API 650. If so you are OK. Foam type and rate probably will not change. Check with NFPA and your foam supplier. Check seal and gasket material.
