Does anyone know how to extract the table values created under Tools-Custom Properties in Solid Edge? I am trying to store a list of values on a part in the part mode and extract those values in the draft mode, but it seems like the Custom Properties are not connected to anything but the part in the part mode. Does anyone know otherwise?

The custom properties in that table is used mainly for downstream applications that can read that data (such as CNC or CMM). It is also used to attach "attributes" to specific entities as a method of the paperless environment.

The tool you want to use is called "property text." (Look in the help for a clearer definition.)

Under the File-->Properties menu, fill out properties in the Custom tab (thus "custom properties"). When you go to a drawing, click the annotation icon and then the button for property text. Using a graphic connection or other, you can "read" the part's custom properties into the draft file.

Thanks for the info.

The reason that I am trying to use the Custom Table under the Tools is that I can create templates and store different values under each template. The templates are not linked to the document until it is loaded and attached to the part. In this case, I can choose and load a set of data that best matches the part. That saves considerable time.

Custom Properties under File, on the other hand, can achieve the same objective. However, I would have to create various document templates to store different sets of data, and it is more time consumming if I want to change the data set in mid stream of design. In addition, all the selection would have to be lump in one page (Custom Properties page).

If there is a better way to achieve what I want to do, please let me know. Thanks!

I was playing with the custom properties tables. It is hard for me to visualize what you are doing without seeing an example, so I could only test my best guess and the properties tables won't work.

We have many different templates here; picking the right one for the job. They are not hard to manage, either, because every folder you create under the "templates" folder becomes a tab on the "new file" dialog box. We sort our templates that way.
