I'd like to know if it's possible to create a pattern in both directions along the same linear reference (i.e. base feature is in the center of the pattern). Features would be evely spaced in both directions, nothing fancy. I'd just like to know if it's possible within one patternfeature and without using tables.

Create the first feature offset from the center. Using the offset dimension pattern back the number of instances you want, then use a relation to keep the pattern centered.

This seems to have worked, but now it seems that if I try to edit the dims that are setup with this relation, I get a sudden shutdown.

I'll keep trying, but thanks for the help.

Try usig a FILL pattern

How do I apply the fill function to a linear pattern?

Edit:

(Nevermind, i'll shut up now.)
