Dear All,

I saw 145kV transmission system where switching of shunt capacitor is done by three induvidual pole circuit breaker replacing three pole ganged circuit breaker. What is the main reason behind this ?

in my opinion, main purpose is that when one phase of capacitor gets fault at that time only one phase trips and remaining two will be available in the system.
Am i right ? or please correct me.

Thanks for all in advance.

Could also be that it is easier to synchronize switching with voltage zero crossing to avoid heavy transients. Individual poles are easier to synchronize than poles with a common actuator are.
