I am working on a pipeline project where the tailing pipeline, the size of pipe is 16" of HDPE and I need to draw some type of sand support like the image.
I would like to know how to dimensioning this type of supports.

Dont bother. HDPE tailings line has a incredible ability to snake itself away from any design restraints. Just lay it on the ground and allow it to find its prefered path as the temperature changes

I think it is gravity line. Refet to AWWA MANUAL M55 ( PE Pipe—Design and Installation ) Chapter 5 External Load Design for stresses and deflection of the HDPE pipe. Provide compacted sand bedding and compacted pipe zone fill. The width , backfill depth , slope will vary acc. to environmental con's. Typical slope for crushed gravel , 1: 1.5. The surface of the berm should stabilized against erosion.

Bermed pipeline is common practice at Saudi Arabia.

Diana,

1) This is not a support, it's a berm or surface covering of a pipeline.

Dimensions of this depend on what you're trying to do with this extra soil.

Is it to allow people to drive over it? If so in what sort of vehicle?

Is it intended to stop the pipeline snaking and bending as the sun heats it up?

Is it to protect it from the sun?

PE has a large expansion coefficient (X10 from steel) so if the contents change its temperature it could expand in places if your cover is too low.

But anything less than 500mm of min cover won't be worth doing and slope will depend on soil type but aim of 1: 1.5 V:H

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Good night.

Thanks for yours help, this pipeline is for tailings by gravity and this berm is to stop the pipeline snaking.
I have found this document about this berm.

Thanks again.
