We have a Acid gas scrubber in our plant during the recent shut down we found that the hold down plate below the distributor and the support plat which supports the packings were damaged. The vessel drawing is not showing the connection of the hold down plate and the support plate to the shell I would like to know how this plates are connected. In my knowledge I thing the hold down plate is to prevent the packing to pass with gas and remains in floating condition in the vessel but how is the support plate connected to the vessel ? Would love to know from experts regarding the connection of support plate to the vessel

Look in the drawing which shows the vessel internals. Or you can go through the data sheet or the documents that had come with the vessel specifying the welding details.

Most of these joints are fillet welds normally.
