Hi dear eng-tips users,
I would like to analyze dynamic behavior of a long structure (2 km), and I would like to see the response on a relatively small component (2m) on this long structure.
My first approach was to make a 3D model of this small component in detail, and find stiffness matrix by doing substructuring.
And I would like to make a 2D beam model for the whole long structure, and use a super element with the stiffness matrix found in the 3D analysis.
My question is
- does it sound like a proper approach? is it matter of choosing one bottom and one top node as master nodes in the substructure analysis?
- is it correct to choose only two master (top and bottom surface) nodes in a substructure as the nodes with constraints?
I hope the question is clear enough.
Thanks in advance!
