Submerged metal in WWTPs 1

I am currently having a debate with a product supplier regarding the appropriate metal for equipment and pipe supports submerged in an equalization tank and an activated sludge basin (municipal WWTP). Is stainless steel required or will galvanized do?

Galvanized will not last 2 years, but it costs a small fraction of what SS does. For fasteners/threaded couplings, you want 316 too. Don't buy the old "but 304 is stronger" line - although it's true, 304 will sieze up in those acidic conditions. You'll never remove/decouple them.

Make sure it is grade 316ss. 304 will corrode.
