Anyone have any structural information, circa 1958 construction, regarding steel studs, 2 & 5/16" deep that would nest into a 2.5" steel stud track? Just wondering what gages and strengths might have been used back then for an equipment building closure wall on the roof of a retirement facility. The gage of the studs is not called out.

They are also showing what appear to be 1.5" deep "B" deck welded to two of these back to back with plug welds at 24" OC, but of an unspecified diameter. These back to back C's appear to be stiffeners for the steel deck wall as both span vertically.

None of my present steel stud catalogs have steel studs that shallow in section.

Mike, see attached link. Found this by googling "History of Steel Studs". Took a quick look through and they basically talk about the evolution of steel studs...they reference a few codes along the way. Didn't look at it close enough to see how useful it is, but definitely worth a look over.

No real help, but thanks for trying. I can find nothing on the net that lists 2-5/16" steel studs as a structural shape - only 2.5", and nothing that vertically and laterally load rates a stud as structural below 3.5".

I guess I just have to grind this out by hand...

I had to download a steel stud design program to solve this ... ANSIWIN8. No tables for combined loading available for 2.5" studs.
