ASME B31.1 104.8.2 Stress Due to Occasional Loads: Equation (16) has the term 0.75iMb/Z. Per table D-1 i is 2.3 for a threaded pipe joint. My question, is Z based on the pipe OD and ID because the reduced OD due to threading is taken into account in the 2.3 i value, or must Z be based on the nominal pipe OD minus 2h, where h is the thread depth? Can anyone help me with this? Is it mentioned in B31.1 or in a tech paper somewhere?
