Strain measurement on gear

Anyone has any experience with measuring strain on the toothradius of a gear when gears is in working order / on a testequipment.

Gear modulus is rather small (mn= +- 2.5)

This is done regularly in the helicopter industry. Since I'm not a gear designer I dont know what gear moduleus is. But I am currently strain gauding some 8 pitch gears in the tooth root with very tiny gages.
