Hi everyone,
I am analyzing a 3 storied residential building with story height of 11 ft in ETABS. The number of bays in X direction is 3 with maximum span of 12 ft and the number of bays in Y direction is 2 with maximum span of 14 ft.
I am getting huge story drift ratio (of around 0.008) which is higher than the codal permissible value of 0.006.
By increasing the size of columns, I am getting the story drift ratio within permissible range.
However, the design of columns show the minimum reinforcement in the columns.
So, what may be the reason for high story drift>

Post a screenshot. Give size of columns and beams. Maybe it's all reasonable, and not actually a problem with ETABS.

I'm curious, how could the code permissible value be 0.006? It's usually 0.01 or 0.02 in ASCE 7. I guess you're dividing by deflection amplification (Cd)?
