Hi guys,

The current situation is a large circular storage tank (oil, 200 feet in diameter) is to be placed over a large cut (30+ feet) in overconsolidated clays below the water table (25 feet). We are still waiting for lab testing to be finished, and the structural guys are looking for preliminary settlement figures. I have estimated the bearing pressures based upon their drawings but I'm having a hard time trying to model this as the cut is taking place on a slope and the outer walls will have different cuts (maybe 15 feet over the diameter). Can anyone provide any insight, or a reference I could look into?

Thanks

Providing a cross sectional view of the situation will help. In these types of questions, it pays to give as much detail as you can, since sometim4s that one factor is a lot more important than the poster first thinks. Diagram should show water table, etc. What tests are being run? What is the general area of what country?
