I have to design some masonry support shelf angles to be bolted to a foundation, and will potentially have soil contact on the bottom surface and could get wet from rain on the other surfaces if the mortar or caulking fail.
This is about 5 miles to the ocean.
I initially though 304 or 316 stainless steel, but not sure if galvanizing A36 steel might be an alternative.
Perhaps some sort of applied coating after installation might help.
Any opinions would be helpful.
