How close can I drive new steel pipe piles from existing pipe piles that are abandoned

Minimum pile spacing (often about 3 pile diameters) is established keep the pile being driven from laterally displacing piles already in place and to distribute pile loading (either pile skin friction or point bearing) over more soil. If your abandoned piling no longer have applied load, I would be comfortable driving piling quite close to the individual existing piles, say within a foot, or so.
